Beyonce's VMAs Performance Blew Everyone Away, Except Kimye
Not impressed?! Kim Kardashian and Kanye West didn’t drink the lemonade during the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 28. A backstage camera caught the couple completely focused on their phones during Beyoncé’s epic performance at NYC’s Madison Square Garden.
While the crowd roared with applause inside the venue, Kardashian, 35, and West, 39, were sitting in a private room backstage. As seen in the MTV video, the parents of two barely engaged with each other and scrolled through their iPhones the whole time.
The couple were backstage at the time waiting for Kardashian to introduce Britney Spears on the show.
Earlier in the night, West debuted his new video for “Fade,” which features actress-singer Teyana Taylor. The rapper even mentioned Queen Bey, 34, during his speech before the video.
Kimye later returned to their seats and the Selfish author could be seen on camera telling West to put his phone away.
West and Beyoncé, of course, have a history at the VMAs. Back in 2009, he famously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to shout that the “Sorry” singer should have won the Best Female Video award for her 2008 smash hit “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”
This year, Beyoncé belted out some of her biggest Lemonade tracks, including “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and “Formation.” She dropped the mic after the jaw-dropping performance and the audience went nuts.
“I could’ve been born at any time, but God let me live during Beyoncé’s time on earth,” one fan tweeted. A second quipped: “HER VOCALS AND THAT DAMN BODY GOT ME SHOOK #VMAs.”
